Interview a woman in your life (e.g., mother, grandmother, aunt, friend) who has attempted to balance motherhood and work. Analyze her experiences in relation to course readings and discussions in class (Chapter 7 may be a good place to start). For example, how do psychological theories and research relate to this woman’s experiences? You should go beyond simply describing her responses. I am looking for further analysis and connections to course material.

Note: Please do not reveal the real name of the person you interview – use a pseudonym. This assures confidentiality for the person you choose to interview.

The following questions may be used to help guide your interview, but you are in no way limited to these questions alone; feel free to ask your own questions as well:

How did you choose your present line of work?

Did you become a mother before or after pursuing this career?

Do you feel that you had a choice whether to work or stay home with your child? If so, how did you make this decision?

If you have a partner(s), how has being a working mother affected your relationship with him/her/them (if at all)?

Describe the ways (if any) that being a mother has affected how you are treated at work, including issues of salary, promotions, acknowledgements, etc.

Have you had any difficulties trying to balance being a mother and working? If so, what problems have arisen? How have you addressed these difficulties?

How did COVID-19 affect the balance between motherhood and work? What challenges did you encounter?
