Organizational Communication and Conflict Resolution: the causes, its impact on an organization whether positive or negative, and how to minimize it.

Organizational communications affects us all. We continually face conflicts throughout our lives, both in our private life and our professional life. There are different approaches to resolving conflicts, depending on the situation, your goal and those involved. Students are required to write a report about Organizational Communication and Conflict Resolution: the causes, its impact on an organization whether positive or negative, and how to minimize it. Then select only three scenarios (of the listed six) and write about your approach to resolve them. Profile the social styles of those involved in each scenario, identify the conflict handling modes and specify which one(s) you would use to resolve each scenario. Steps: 1. Discuss the content of your report and the scenario list with your group. Select the three relevant scenarios and agree on an approach. 2. Write up your report (collaborative writing), and make sure it flows, and you follow the tips given during the Mechanics, Grammar and Punctuation lecture. Scenarios from the workplace: Scene One: First Day On The Job Noura felt ready to get to work after her one day job orientation for new employees. When she got to work, however, she was shocked. She was not prepared for the fast pace, sophistication and skill level found in her new department. By noon that day, Noura felt like she was not cut out for the job. She felt under-skilled and under prepared to meet her department’s challenges. On her way to the company cafeteria one of her co-workers, Sara, caught up with her and they had lunch together. Noura was glad that Sara was so friendly to her and she was able to relax a little bit. During lunch Sara talked about their manager, Mr. Abdullah. Noura learned that Mr. Abdullah was in trouble with his superiors. Next, Sara told her about Khalid, the computer programmer. She told Noura that Khalid spread rumors and was not to be trusted. She talked about Mrs. Anoud, the accountant. She said that Mrs. Anoud was recently diagnosed with MS and takes frequent sick leaves. Sara asked Noura to join her for coffee after work. She said, “Trust me, Noura. Once you come to understand how everyone working here has serious problems, and you get the feel of the place, you’ll do fine.” Question: Why would Sara be so friendly towards Noura? What might happen if Noura gets close to Sara? Have you ever been in a similar situation?
